Tour Las Vegas and The Grand Canyon

Las Vegas, Nevada, in the United States of America, is internationally renowned as being one of the best resort cities and billed as “The Entertainment Capital of the World”. Though New York City may be referred to as the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas definitely gives that town a run for its money. Regardless of the time of day or year, there is always something to do in Las Vegas, from touring the Vegas Strip, visiting “Old Vegas” or slipping away for a day trip to the Grand Canyon.

The Las Vegas Strip

The legendary and electrifying Las Vegas Boulevard, simply referred to as ‘The Strip”, is home to a number of resorts and entertainment opportunities. The area first made its mark as being the gambling capital of North America, currently having close to 30 casinos located along this buzzing 6.75km stretch of land. Visitors rarely stay in one casino for long, hopping from the iconic MGM Grand Casino (which has a massive pool and waterway for visitors to enjoy) to test their luck at the New York, New York Hotel and Casino (take a ride on the roller coaster while you’re there!); to perhaps settle at the Stratosphere at one bookend of the strip (which has a mini amusement park located sky high at 350m).

But gambling isn’t the only thing that the area has to offer. A number of big ticket entertainers come through the area, some even taking up residency such as Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Mariah Carey. Many of the hotels offer free shows right at their doorsteps (such as the dancing water display at the Bellagio or a pirate-themed play in front of Treasure Island), and there are a variety of shops in the resorts or at the Vegas mall, Crystals.

Old Vegas

Now known as the “Fremont Street Experience”, this little piece of Las Vegas is the original Las Vegas that older generations grew up knowing and loving. This area is now covered, providing visitors sanctuary from the blazing Nevada sun as they explore some of the oldest casinos of Vegas. Many of the establishments give visitors that ‘old time’ feel and have more affordable buy-ins than the casinos on The Strip. Take in one of the many free Fremont Street Experience light shows, or stroll through the outdoor Neon Museum. For those feeling more than a tad hungry, be sure to stop by the Heart Attack Grill and indulge in one of their aptly named menu items such as their “Flatliner” fries or the “Quadruple Bypass” hamburger.

The Grand Canyon

Located one state and a five hour drive away is the breathtaking Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon National Park offers visitors reprieve from the thrills and excitement of Vegas and gives remarkable views of one of the deepest gorges on the planet. There are a number of ways in which visitors can take in the canyon:

  • By Car: Visitors can follow a road that takes them along the Canyon, such as the South Rim or the North Rim
  • By Shuttle: The park offers free shuttle buses to its tourists
  • By Foot: The canyon offers overnight hiking, being 34km in distance with a vertical descent and climb of 1.6km
  • By Helicopter: Visitors can soar over this vast and immense wonder of the world, with many services offering items such as private champagne picnics to their guests.

Don’t forget to stop and trot along the Grand Canyon Skywalk! Built in early 2007, this see-through horseshoe-shaped attraction is perched on the very edge of the Canyon and allows visitors to stare straight down 219m into the immense depths of the Grand Canyon.
