Best Places to Visit in 2015

2015 has just begun and if you are wondering the best places to visit, we recommend you 5 gorgeous destinations, which offers you everything and maybe more than you could ever imagine: elegant hotels, exotic beaches, beautiful cities, history, traditions, culture, music, and festivals. Let’s see the best travel destinations for 2015!

Best Places to Visit #1: Mons, Belgium

The Belgian city, Mons, is this year’s one of two European Capitals of Culture, organizing a large number of projects and events based on the European and Belgian culture, one of them being the Van Gogh exhibition. As part of Mons 2015, the city will be holding more than 200 events throughout the year, ranging from festivities & gastronomy, music, literature, fashion & design and many more, ensuring there’s something for everyone to get involved in.

Mons is a small town close to the border between France and Belgium, about 80 km from Lille or Brussels. You can easily get to Mons by train from Brussels (45 to 60min), or Lille (45 to 55 min). Within Mons, you can travel from place to place using its free shuttle bus services. Though it is less well-known compared to Brussels, Mons is a beautiful city where “technology meets culture”. The former industrial city is today comparable to the Silicon Valley of the US, with companies such as Google, Microsoft and more than a hundred such firms establishing its presence in Mons.

Mons has the classic Belgian central square type, with an imposing building of the City Hall, a beautiful belfry, various buildings and museums to visit and of course, the charm of the beautiful restaurants and the well-known Belgian beers.

Best Places to Visit #2: Milan, Italy

Beyond its charm and opulence, this year, Milan will be a tourist magnet because of Milan Expo 2015 – a fair that focuses on innovations in agriculture, food and diet. The exhibition will take place between May 1 and October 31, 2015, with the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. More than 140 countries are expected to take part in the exhibition and a ticket costs 32 Euros. However, even if you are not interested in the exhibition itself, the main idea to visit Milan during this time is because just like any city planning to host global events, the city will certainly aim to impress and dazzle, making it more attractive and stylish than it used to be.

Even without the exhibition itself, Milan is an incredible city, having a superb center built around the Duomo. It is a place particularly known for fashion, design, fashion houses and chic shops. Milan is an ideal destination both for shopping as well as food enthusiasts. The later would find Milan especially attractive this year given the Expo’s food theme.

Best Places to Visit #3: Tunisia, North Africa

Tunisia is one of the favorite destinations of many adventurous travelers. The reason is quite simple: it’s hot most of the year, the Mediterranean Sea is outstanding and it is one of the friendliest countries in Africa where you can get in contact with the Arab civilization and visit unique places (including the Sahara desert).

One of the more popular destination is Sousse, at 140 km from Tunis, the Tunisian capital. The city is a coveted tourist resort, with excellent beaches and moderate climate throughout the year. Known as the “Pearl of the Sahel”, Sousse is rich in attractions of all kinds, from water sports to sunny beaches and important historical sites.

Some of Sousse’s tourist attractions are its Medina – a flea/street market with quirky streets and cafes, the Grande Mosque with its beautiful architecture and the Ribat, one of oldest buildings in Sousse.

Best Places to Visit #4: Zermatt, Switzerland

Those who want a vacation in a peaceful place with breathtaking view will find Zermatt, Switzerland appealing. The Lonely Planet has made Zermatt, Switzerland one of the top ten places to visit in 2015 as the city will be holding mega events for its 150-year anniversary celebrations. Among the events will be “Zermatt Unplugged” – a singer and songwriter festival with concerts by well-known artists such as James Blunt and Anastacia, Zermatt’s first open-air festival that features a musical performance about the first ascent of the Matterhorn, and the Swiss Food Festival.

Notwithstanding its 150-year anniversary celebrations, Zermatt offers plenty of attractions on its own: from the city, take the Gornergrat train which meanders its ways up the mountain to an altitude of 3089 metres to catch a panoramic view of the Matterhorn and the surrounding mountain ranges,  visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise for sporting adventures, or if you prefer lower grounds, walk around the car-free village of Zermatt and get a flavour of how the original residents used to live.

Best Places to Visit #5: Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia

If you are looking for a holiday where you can chill & relax, away from the city’s hustle and bustle, then you will love Whitsundays, Australia. The best way to get here is to take an international flight to Brisbane and then take a domestic flight to either Great Barrier Reef Airport, Hamilton Island or Whitsunday Coast Airport, Proserpine. If you arrive at Hamilton, you can take a ferry from the jetty at the airport to the many Whitsunday Island resorts. If you arrive at Proserpine, you can take a bus to Airlie Beach or Shute Harbor and out to the islands from there. This may seem like a lot of hassle to get to the resorts but it’s certainly worth the effort.

Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays offer secluded beaches with brilliant white sand, crystal clear water with beautiful corals and abundant marine life, and a sea protected from huge swells that’s perfect for sailing. You can sail around the Whitsundays 74 islands, go whale watching, snorkel among the thousand species of fish and corals, go fishing or simply soak up the sun and cool off at the pristine white beaches.
