ARRIVAL – YANGON

Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, meet your tour guide. Proceed to enjoy sunset at Shwedagon Pagoda which its golden stupa is covered with 60tons of pure gold, famous worldwide as the ‘Heart’ of Buddhism Myanmar. The Pagoda is believed to be 2,500 years old and the central stupa in surrounded by dozens of intricately decorated buildings and statues. There are always many Myanmar People praying and making offerings at Shwedagon, and it’s a fascinating place to spend time watching the world go by. After, transfer to hotel for check in before proceeding to have dinner at local restaurant.

YANGON – BAGO – KYAIKHTIYO

After early breakfast at hotel, drive to Golden Rock which is 185km from Yangon via Bago. On the way, visit to Kyaikpun, the four Buddha images sittings in back-to-back position. Continue to 55m long and 16m high reclining Shwethalyaung (a huge reclining Buddha image). Have lunch at local restaurant. After, continues to Golden Rock. Upon arrival at Kin Pun ‘base camp’, a steep and rough 11km dirt road leads to the upper staging point. From there to “Yahae Hill”, open trucks are used for hilly track up. At the Yathae Hill, one has to trek for about one hour up hill. It can also be reached by Sedan Chairs which are easily available. Then, watch the beauty of a sunset at this important pilgrimage site. After, proceed to hotel for check in, have dinner at hotel and overnight stay at Mountain Top Hotel.

KYAIKHTIYO – BAGO – YANGON

After breakfast at hotel, enjoy the sunrise at Golden Rock and visit ancient capital of Mon Kingdom, Bago (the Hansawaddy Dynasty). Sightseeing includes 376ft high Shwemawdaw Pagoda (50ft higher than the great Shwedagon). Then visit Bago Market where Myanmar traditional cheroot industry is. Observe the Buddhism ways of living in Bago and environs. Have lunch at local restaurant before returning back to Yangon. On the way, observe the World War II Cemetery – 27,000 tombstones of allied soldiers who lost their lives in Myanmar during the World War II at Htaukkyant. The cemetery is peaceful and beautifully tended. Upon arrival at Yangon, visit Kyauk Taw Gyi – this sitting Buddha image which is curved out from single marble stone. If time permits, we also visit to “White Elephants Camp”. Have dinner at local restaurant before transferring back to hotel for check in again.

YANGON – THANLYIN – YANGON

After breakfast at hotel, transfer to Thanlyin (Syriam), which was once a trading port occupied by the Portuguese in early 17th Century. The 270m long bridge spanning the Bago River made possible the 45min drive from Yangon. The old buildings still stand in the evidence of the days of Portuguese occupation. Kyaik Khauk Pagoda and Kyauktan Yele Pagoda in the creek are worth visiting. Visit Thanlyin which had been the base for the notorious Portuguese adventurer Philip De Brito between 1500s and early 1600s. He ruled over Thanlyin for about 13 years. Actually, he was officially a trade representative for Rakhine (Arakan), but he ran his own little kingdom in Thanlyin, siding with the Mon in their struggle against the Burmese. In the year 1599, he occupied Bago, but in 1613, the Bama King Alaungpaya besieged Thanlyin and impaled him and King Natshin Naung to death. King Alaungpaya destroyed Thanlyin completely in the year 1756. Today, nothing of this ancient city is to be seen. There are two tombs of Minister Padetha Raza and the great soldier-poet Natshin Naung, King of Ratus. In the afternoon, drive back to Yangon, have lunch at local restaurant and return to hotel. In the evening, walk along Chinatown area to see the local people life before transferring to a local restaurant for dinner.
