Yogyakarta - Mount Merapi - Borobudur
The graceful old city of Yogyakarta has a mild climate and beautiful green landscape that makes merely travelling from one destination to another an experience. Stop by at the following places:
- Kaliadem: A highland located in the slope of Mount Merapi. Journey back to Kaliurang and have your gut tested to try an off-road ride on a jeep to explore the area around the line of cold lava produced by Mount Merapi during its eruptions in 2010. Thereafter, enjoy a cup of coffee/tea and morning bites at Kopi Merapi before continuing your journey southward to Magelang, which includes the following: - Pawon: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a Buddhist temple connected with two other temples, all of which were built during the Sailendra dynasty. - Borobudur Temple: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it a Buddihist stupa built in the style of Mandala, which symbolizes the universe in Buddhist teaching. - Mendut: Known to be the oldest of other two other Buddhist buildings, Borobudur and Pawon, it has become the centre of Buddhism practices and rituals. Yogyakarta - Kota Gede - Prambanan
After breakfast, explore Yogyakarta City which includes:
- Kraton: Also known as the Royal Palace, it has been the cultural heart and soul of the city since the mid 1700s. - Taman Sari: Also known as the garden for the Sultan of Yogyakarta. The beauty of its ancient architecture, the sound of water splashing, and its wonderful view renders it enchanting. - Fort Vredeburg Museum: A former colonial fortress that has been converted into an Independence Struggle Museum. - Kota Gede: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a Buddhist temple connected with two other temples, all of which were built during the Sailendra dynasty. - Batik Factory: Observe the locals produce handmade products using traditional methods. - Prambanan: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva. - Ijo Temple: A temple located at the highest place in Yogyakarta that presents cultural and natural enchantment.
