This morning, collect your car and drive south out of Sydney through Royal National Park to begin the cliff-hugging Grand Pacifi c Drive. Head to Huskisson in Jervis Bay, where you can cruise next to dolphin pods or burrow your feet in some of the world’s whitest sand at Hyams Beach. Hire a sea kayak and paddle round Honeymoon Bay or swim off Murrays Beach, where waters are sheltered by Bowen Island. When you are ready to get behind the wheel, drive south and stop in Ulladulla for fi sh and chips at the harbour. Batemans Bay - Merimbula

Stop at Umbarra Cultural Centre, where you can join a boomerang-throwing session or take a 4WD tour to the sacred sites of Gulaga and Wallaga Lake. Head inland to sample the cheeses of Bega or taste the famous oysters of Pambula. Continue to the whale watching town of Eden, where you can watch majestic southern right and humpback whales making their annual migration between May and November.

Merimbula - Bairnsdale

Drive across the Victorian border to the pretty coastal town of Mallacoota located on the tranquil, shimmering lakes of Mallacoota Inlet. Steer a boat or paddle a canoe up Genoa or Wallagaraugh River to Gipsy Point, where you can picnic with kangaroos and feed sea eagles. See one of the world’s largest known colonies of little penguins on Gabo Island. Alternatively, travel south to Cape Conran Coastal Park for a picnic lunch. Drive along Princes Highway and stop by Yarram for lunch on your way to Wilsons Promontory National Park. Trek to the top of Mt Oberon for one of Victoria’s best panoramic views or hike to one of the 11 outstation campsites. Stay overnight in Tidal River area or the nearby town of Foster. Foster - Phillip Island
