After breakfast, access up to Unkai Terrace by gondola, from this vantage point, one can witness the spectacular Sea of Clouds (called unkai in Japanese), which appears in the early morning under special atmospheric conditions. The cloud sea can be closely observed and even almost touched. At times, the cloud sea rolls over the mountains of the region, like a panoramic Japanese scroll painting. A heady mix of intoxicating brews, majestic views and lush beats. Cosy up to the fireplace as you soak in unmitigated mountain views over an ice-cold pint or two.

After breakfast, proceed to Furano and Biei that is renowned for their picturesque landscape. Experience the lavender pillow making by filling lavender potpourri which helps to enhance your sleeping quality. Take a leisure stroll through the flower fields and indulge in the captivating fragrance of the flowers. Sweeten the day with the complimentary famous lavender ice cream. Ramble through poppy in mid June and lavender in July at the gardens of Farm Tomita in Furano. Thereafter, enjoy a scenic drive through the panoramic road to Biei. This evening, rejuvenate in an mineral water onsen at your Sounkyo onsen resort.

SOUNKYO – ASAHIKAWA – JOZANKEI/OTARU

Today, Hokkaido’s rich tapestry of beautiful natural sites awaits. Make your way to Sounkyo Gorge, situated at the valley of the imposing Mt Daisetsu-zan. The mountain is accented by rugged, jagged cliffs that are criss-crossed with two famous waterfalls, Shooting Star Falls and Milky Way Falls. Thereafter, stop by Otokoyama Sake Brewery and Museum to learn about the production process of one of Japan’s finest sakes. You will also get the opportunity to sample different types of sakes. All that is left to say is “Kampai”.

JOZANKEI/OTARU – SAPPORO

Start the day by visiting Otaru Canal, where charming century-old stone warehouses line both sides of the lively canal. Visit a glass-craft workshop and pick up more mementos at Kitaichi Glass Otaru. Next, proceed to Odori Park. Located in the heart of Sapporo, this beautifully manicured green space is a charming assembly of monumental fountains, sculptures and flowerbeds. Sometimes, love and fresh air is all you need. The retail therapy continues at the famed Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, the longest shopping street in Hokkaido. Spend the night in Sapporo city as your survey of fascinating Hokkaido draws to a close.

SAPPORO

Start your day with a visit to Hokkaido Shrine. Built in 1898, Emporer Meiji selected three protecting deities of reclamation of Hokkaido and enshrined them in here. This 180,000-square-metre precincts is well known for its cherry and plum blossom during the season. Make a stop at a local beer factory where you will learn more about the production process of one of Japan’s finest beers. Head to Mitsui Outlet Sapporo Kitahiroshima for some retail therapy thereafter, and take your pick from the wide range of domestic and imported brand items available.
