DAY 1
Arrive in New Chitose Airport
Upon arrival, take the shuttle service to hotel for check-in. After check-in, enjoy your own leisure time.
DAY 2
Chitose – Jigokudani (Hell Valley) – Mount Usu Ropeway – Showa-shinzan – Bear Ranch – Lake Toya (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Today, visit the Jigokudani (Hell Valley) – an explosion crater of Mt. Kuttara. There are almost 10,000 tons of hot springs gushing out and supplied to accommodations in Onsen Town. Next, you’ll visit Mount Usu – a volcano that has erupted 4 times in the past 100 years – with its’ most recent eruption in Year 2000. The Usuzan Ropeway brings you near the summit – offering panoramic views of Lake Toya, Showa Shinzan and Mount Usu’s largest crater from the observation decks. Your journey will bring you to Showa-Shinzan – a volcanic lava dome that was formed in 2 years, bringing its’ height to 398m! Moving on to the Bear Ranch, you’ll visit the Ezo Brown Bears. The “Human Cage” will have you looking at male brown bears in a close-up view – which will astonish you! At Lake Toya, admire the beauty of the ice-free lake. It never freezes – even when the temperature drops drastically. There are big and small four islands called Nakajima in the middle of the lake, and on it is the Toyako Forest Museum, which is a part of the sightseeing boat route.
DAY 3
Goryokaku - Trappistine Convent - Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse – Night View from Mount Hakodate (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Start off your day as you head to The Goryokaku – a western-style fort made 150years ago. Be marveled at the magnificent panoramic view of the star-shaped estate and its’ surrounding moat. Moving on to the Trappistine Convent, the Catholic convent church was built in 1927 – with a mix of Gothic and Romanesque touches. Head on to the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse which is one of the tourist facilities in Hakodate. Be amazed by the night view from Mt. Hakodate – a definite “MUST-SEE” in Hakodate!
DAY 4
Mount Yotei - Yoichi distillery – Otaru – Ginnokane (Tea Time) – Jozankei Onsen (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Venture to Mount Yotei – a solitary mountain. It is a volcano, with its’ last eruption about 6,000 years ago. At the foot of this mountain, there are several springs of tasty water. Your next stop would be the Yoichi Distillery, owned by Nikka Whisky Distilling, opened in 1934. Have a look at the Otaru which is a small harbor city. Its beautifully preserved canal area and interesting herring mansions make Otaru a pleasant day trip from Sapporo or a nice stop en route to or from Niseko or the Shakotan Peninsula. Next up is the Ginnokane. In those days the bells of Hokkaido's opening (Kaitaku no Kane) were the actual bells used at the stations on the Temiya line, even today one used is still on display at the Minami Otaru Station. The bells of Hokkaido's opening, shone bright with the brilliance of snow just like a bell of silver (Gin no Kane). The store Gin no Kane as a reminder to never forget brilliant brightness. Sit back and relax at Jozankei Onsen (Hot Springs) and admire the beautiful surroundings.
DAY 5
Historical Village of Hokkaido - Former HokkaidoÌ„ Government Office - Sapporo Clock Tower (Drive pass) – Duty Free – Tanukikoji (Breakfast/Lunch)
Today, you’ll head to the Historical Village of Hokkaido – the main entrance to the village is the old Sapporo Station building. Upon entering the village, immerse in the atmosphere of the mid 19th to early 20th century. Horse-drawn trollies are used as transportation along the main street. Farm life is shown in traditional houses that was built by immigrants from Honshu. Next, The Former Hokkaido Government Office was used for almost 80 years before the new government office was built. The building is an example of American neo-baroque architecture. Drive pass the Sapporo Clock Tower – one of the few standing Western-style buildings in Sapporo. It is known as the symbol of the city. The chimes can be heard every hour. Lastly, Tanukikoji is a shopping arcade – have a good shopping spree!
DAY 6
Depart from New Chitose Airport (Breakfast)
After breakfast, free and easy. (Own arrangement to airport)
