DAY 1
Sunday: Arrival at Taipei
Upon arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, there will be a transfer provided to bring you to the hotel. The rest of the day will be free and easy and at your own leisure.
DAY 2
Monday: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall – Jiufen – Shifen – Jiaoxi Street (Breakfast)
The tour kicks off at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a prominent landmark erected in memory of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the former President of the Republic of China. This will be followed by a tour to Jiufen Old Street to catch a glimpse of the setting of Hayao Miyazaki's Academy Award winning “Spirited Away” and its iconic red lanterns. Among the many treats and souvenirs to be enjoyed, be sure to try the chewy taro, sweet potato balls and fish balls that Jiufen is widely acclaimed for! Thereafter, you will be transferred to the marketplace of the Shifen Old Streets, a collection of lanes and alley where one can easily snack on local delicacies, purchase souvenirs or release wishes on sky lanterns (own expense). Then, you will travel to your designated hotel through the Hsuehshan Tunnel, also titled the longest tunnel in Taiwan. As night falls, you will set off to have dinner at Jiaoxi Street.
DAY 3
Tuesday: Yilan – Taroko National Park – Lingzhi Tea Hall (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
In the day, you will explore the island's mountainous east coast, Hualien. This will begin with a tour at Taroko National Park, one of Taiwan’s most beautiful sights. The landmark gorge is formed by the erosive power of gushing river waters cutting through the marble and granite to create a beautiful, narrow ravine with waterfalls and patches of mist clinging to the mountainous forests. Besides the gorge, you will also visit other attractions such as the Cingshui Cliffs and Eternal Spring Shrine or Changchun Shrine which was built to commemorate the 212 heroes who died during the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway. Thereafter, you will leave for the Lingzhi Tea Hall before heading back to the hotel for a freshly-prepared seafood dinner.
DAY 4
Wednesday: Kenting National Park – Taiwan Southernmost Point – Kenting Street (Breakfast/Lunch)
After breakfast, you will depart for Kenting National Park at the southern tip of the island. Firstly, you will explore Longpan Park, a coastal limestone plateau that resulted from the uplifting of coral reefs millions of years ago. This vast piece of grassland, complete with a short network of coastal trails on top of the limestone cliffs, is ideal for catching sunrises, sunsets and stargazing. From there, you will proceed to the viewing deck at Taiwan Southernmost Point. As its name suggests, you will find a stone marker which indicates the exact location of the southernmost point in mainland Taiwan. In the evening, you will head out to Kenting Street where you will be offered a complete selection of foods while embracing the relaxing holiday ambience.
DAY 5
Thursday: Pingtung – Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum – Taroko Mall – Liuhe Night Market (Breakfast/Lunch)
This morning, pass through Season Fruit Orchard (own expenses) and arrive at Taiwan's second-biggest city, Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung is a fascinating mishmash of Buddhist ethics, outlandish nature and surprising art. Upon arrival, you will make your way to the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum. Not only is it a place of worship, it is also a great place for visitors to learn more about Buddhism and its ties to Taiwanese culture. Even if you are not a religious person, the beautiful architecture of the temples and statues will most definitely impress you. Thereafter, you will stroll down the streets of Meinung Folk Village to admire the intricate handicraft works of skillful artisans plastered on everyday items of the yesteryear such as handmade paper umbrella, paper fans, bamboo baskets and even bamboo hats! Whilst here, be sure to savour the traditional Hakka food such as thunder tea rice, thick white ban tiao noodles in pork bone broth, stir fried intestines, stewed cabbage with winter melon and indulge in collagen rich stewed pork trotters. Then, you will proceed to one of the largest shopping malls in Taichung City, Taroko Park and be impressed by the respectively themed floors. At sunset, you will head to Liuhe Night Market for a dinner cum shopping session.
DAY 6
Friday: Kaohsiung – Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village – Sun Moon Lake – Fengjia Night Market (Breakfast/Lunch)
After breakfast, you will leave for Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. As you step into Aboriginal Village Park, be prepared to be greeted by the recreations of the various disappearing traditional houses and gain depth of the indigenous culture of Taiwan through traditional performances and archery lessons. The tour then progresses along with the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area, famous for its alluring body of water before heading to the Wenwu Temple, a Chinese Northern Dynasty style temple built on the north side of the lake. Following, you will also take a walk through time to visit the homes and communities of Taiwan’s main indigenous tribal groups at the Aboriginal Local Product Centre. The excitement continues through the night at Fengjia Night Market, the biggest, most popular, and most interesting night market in Taiwan. Be it freshly cooked food, chewy bubble teas, super tall ice-creams, trendy fashion apparels or accessories, you name it, they have it!
DAY 7
Saturday: Pineapple Dream Factory – Taipei 101 – Ximending (Breakfast/Lunch)
After breakfast, you will embark on a tour at the Pineapple Dream Factory, where you will be brought to a room to master the secret know-hows of making Taiwan’s most famous pastry! Next, you will head to the iconic Taipei 101 Mall. The “tallest green building in the world” was designed as a symbol of technology's evolution fused with Asian tradition. The building features many pan-Chinese and Asian elements mixed with a postmodern style, and is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes common in Taiwan. Here, you may purchase a ticket (own expense) to the observation deck for to capture a breathtaking bird eye’s view of the city. This will be followed by a trip to Tienlu Handicraft Centre and the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine, a structure built to honour the fallen Kuomintang soldiers after the Chinese Civil War. The night ends of with a trip to Ximending. Besides being the host of an array of fashionables, eclectic restaurants, clubs, and bars, the ‘Harajuku’ of Taipei also has spectacular sightings such as a whole street of cinemas or graffiti-painted walls which is most definitely worth a visit!
DAY 8
Sunday: Depart from Taipei (Breakfast)
Today, after breakfast, you will have some leisure time before your transfer back to the airport for your flight back to Singapore.
