Next, visit beloved St Basil’s Cathedral where its whimsical shape, like a flame of a bonfire rising to the sky, is an absolute sight to behold. Following which, if you can clip the wings of time, explore GUM department store. End the day by heading to the ornate Moscow Metro, which Stalin called The People’s Palaces.

This morning, pay a due visit to Kremlin. Immerse yourself with a slew of attractions including medieval towers, cathedrals, palaces and a big bell tower, and the official residence of the President of Russia. Visit the 3 renowned Kremlin cathedrals, Cathedrals of the Assumption, Annunciation and Archangel, all of which will garner a chorus of “oohs and ahs” as you look in awe at the vast collections of holy icons. Next, enjoy a vodka tasting session and celebrate good times by tasting classical and modern vodkas. Conclude your tour with a visit to Izmaylovo Market, a definitive souvenir venue in Moscow. Izmaylovo Market is where you can find all the iconic Russian souvenirs such as matryoshka dolls, fur hats and lacquer boxes. Following which, spend the evening witnessing world-class acts and performances by the legendary Moscow Circus.

After breakfast, depart for Sergiev Posad, a colourful and truly Russian town. It is famous for its spectacular fortress monastery, The Holy Trinity–St Sergius Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important centre of Orthodox Christianity. Icon painters Andrey Rublev and Daniel Chorny worked here, decorating the main church of the monastery, Trinity Cathedral with frescoes. Just outside the monastery walls is the small bazaar, where one can see and even buy the works of arts and crafts, such as matryoshka dolls, lacquer boxes or wooden toys, known as trinity toys. Next, visit a matryoshka doll factory to learn about the making of these traditional nestling Trinity toys. Participate in a DIY matryoshka doll workshop, make your own doll and bring it home as souvenir. Thereafter, on the drive back to Moscow, marvel at the splendid landscape of birch forests, green hills, small villages and quiet rivers.

This morning, spend your time at leisure exploring Arbat Street, a 1-kilometer-long pedestrian street in the historical centre of Moscow. Because of the many historic buildings, the famous artists who have lived and worked in the street, and the numerous souvenirs shops, restaurants, and bars lining its length, Arbat Street has become an important tourist attraction. This afternoon, transfer to the train station for your Sapsan high-speed train ride to St Petersburg.

Begin your morning with a visit to one of the most integral buildings in St Petersburg, the revered Peter and Paul Fortress. Next, continue to St Isaac’s Cathedral, the largest Orthodox cathedral in Russia. Then, proceed to tour The State Hermitage Museum, which is one of the world’s largest museums and was once the Tsars’ winter residential palace. This evening, enjoy a pelmeni-making demonstration in which you get to watch how traditional Russian dumplings are made.

Today, kick off the day by basking in the glory of the fabulous gardens and fountains of Peter the Great’s summer residence at Petrodvorets, now known as Peterhof. Be mesmerized by the Grand Cascade, which is the entire attraction’s focal centre. The palace, stretching for nearly 300 metres and blending with the natural environment, is a superb example of the harmony of earthly and heavenly features. The décor of all the rooms in the palace, executed by Rastrelli, corresponds to the complex ceremonies of court etiquette with a deliberately pompous theatrical replication of life in the palace in a presentation that is majestically regal and luxuriously beautiful. Next, do not miss Cruiser Aurora and Memorial to the Siege of Leningrad which serve as a poignant reminder of the fateful events of World War II before you proceed to tour splendid Kazan Cathedral. Tonight, be treated to an entertaining Russian folklore show where you will be served vodka and some light snacks during the interval.
