Cape Town – Hermanus

Upon arrival, embark on a journey along the scenic Garden Route of the Western Cape to the fishing village of Hermanus, a bohemian town that offers excellent cuisines and fantastic markets. Hermanus is also widely known as the whale-watching capital of South Africa and has the world’s only whale crier, a local man who alerts you of the whereabouts of the whales by blowing his kelp horn. Spot the humpback whale from May to December. You will also get the opportunity to see the bryde’s whale all year round and if you are lucky, you may spot orcas too. Enjoy a unique restaurant setting and lunch at Bientang’s Cave Restaurant. Meet the African penguin colony at Stony Point Nature Reserve. Thereafter, proceed to Walker Bay Nature Reserve to enjoy a land-based whale-watching session. You may also book an optional tour at your own expense to enjoy whale-watching on a boat ride.

This morning, see the rugged natural beauty of Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa. Make a photo stop at the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet and visit the historical Cape Agulhas Lighthouse. Look out for Meisho Maru No. 38 wreck, the remains of a Japanese fishing vessel that ran aground in 1982. Proceed to Mossel Bay, a stop on a journey along the Garden Route. Stop by the Post Office Tree for photo opportunities. Continue to visit Dias Museum, where you can see a life-sized replica of Bartolomeu Dias’s caravel as well as an exhibition on the maritime history of the early Portuguese, Dutch and English navigators. Set off for Knysna, a bustling town with a magnificent and terrific lagoon, for your overnight stay.

Knysna

This morning, take a ferry across the lagoon to Featherbed Nature Reserve. Stroll through the forest and enjoy the view of the Knysna Heads, a pair of dramatic sea cliffs that guard the entrance of the lagoon. In the evening, engage in an interactive oyster tour to learn how oysters are cultivated in Knysna. You will also enjoy an oyster-tasting session.

Knysna – Tsitsikamma National Park – Port Elizabeth

After breakfast, proceed to Storm Rivers Mouth, where the Storms River enters the Indian Ocean. Stop by Bloukrans Bridge to view the world’s tallest bungee site. Visit Storms River suspension bridge, located in Tsitsikamma National Park. Thereafter, visit the non-profit Tsitkamma Wolf Sanctuary, established in the year 2000 and home to wolves who were previously pets of unscrupulous breeders. Head to Port Elizabeth for your overnight stay.

Port Elizabeth

After breakfast, set off in an open-top bush vehicle for a guided game drive at Addo Elephant National Park, the 3rd-largest national park in South Africa and home to one of the densest African elephant populations on earth. Later, return to Port Elizabeth for a city tour. Drive past Campanile Memorial, an important landmark situated at the entrance to the railway station. Proceed along Route 67, an exciting trail that combines the best elements of both historical and modern-day culture of the Eastern Cape. Pay tribute to Nelson Mandela and his 67 years of service to South Africans. Visit Donkin Reserve and the old lighthouse at Belmont Terrace, and enjoy a panoramic view of the city. Drive through other attractions including Fort Frederick, City Hall, Market Square, city library and St George’s Park, the oldest cricket ground in South Africa. Enjoy a photo opportunity in front of a Nelson Mandela metal cut-out.
