TAIPEI BEITOU HOT SPRING HOTEL – SHIFEN VILLAGE – JIUFEN VILLAGE

After breakfast, head towards Shifen Village (十份老街) and experience releasing a Heavenly Lantern (at own expense). Shifen Old Street is not only a great place for photographs, sky lanterns and to see the unique scene of trains running right through the old street, but also a nice place to sample local snacks that will satiate your taste buds.

Following, head towards Jiufen Village (九份老街), the old gold town of Taiwan, served as an inspirational model for Miyazaki's film, Spirited Away. It tells the story of Chihiro Ogino, a sullen ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new neighbourhood, enters the spirit world. After her parents are transformed into pigs by the witch Yubaba, Chihiro takes a job working in Yubaba's bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and return to the human world. Places similar to the Anime in Jiufen Includes the Jiufen Tea House and the streets lined with red lanterns and food shops. Most Importantly, the never ending amount of stairs similar to Spirited Away.

Explore all the corners of Jiufen Village, where you can visit the Jiufen Kite Museum (九份風箏博物館), to see colourful kites of all shapes and sizes from around the world. Also, visit the Jiufen Gold Mine Museum (九份金礦博物館). As Jiufen used to be a Gold Mine, the museum shows visitors the unique heritage of Gold Mining. You can also see Original Gold Stones or Rare Ornamental Golden Stones.

The wide array of Food is also unique at Jiufen Village. Be sure to try their Ice Cream Popiah, 2 Scoops of Soft Ice Cream wrapped in Popiah Skin with Peanut and Coriander Fillings. Also, try the Famous Kurobuta (Wild Boar) Sausage and the fragrant Taro Rice Balls, sure to make you crave for more. The Meat Balls at Jiufen Village are also extremely tangy and comes with a bowl of piping hot soup. To end your day, be sure to have some Tea at the Jiufen Tea House. This 100-year-old wood and brick building at the far end of Jishan St hosts what was reputedly the first teahouse in Jiufen. The tea selection includes old pu'ers, roasted Oriental Beauty and a fruity Tieguanyin.
